Today is the 1 year anniversary of my dad's death. I will be honoring his memory at BSA Hospice tomorrow with free chair massages to the staff & families of patients. (The flyer I made for hospice with pictures of my dad is on the pdf file.) It is very healing to me to be able to do something concrete in his memory that I hope is meaningful to others. I am very thankful for the time I had to spend with my dad in his last few weeks holding his hand and comforting him with touch. I am also so grateful to the caring staff at hospice that eased his transition from this world to heaven with their compassionate service.
This weekend I'm taking ANOTHER class. I'm really excited about it because it will help me get & keep my clients out of pain. We were fortunate to have the opportunity to schedule ourselves or our own clients the day before class for an appointment with the teacher, Micheal Critz, who travels teaching continuing education classes to therapists. He has worked in a pain management clinic on thousands of patients, and has many varied credentials. One of the most important credentials is that he, himself, has suffered from chronic pain in the past, but is now pain free!
This morning I took one of my clients who has chronic neck pain to get worked on by this amazing practitioner. We were lucky enough to be able to video tape the techniques he used to stretch overly tight muscles, and allow the spine to return to the correct position naturally and immediately.
My client has had chiropractic adjustments every 2 weeks for years. The adjustments are very painful, but if he didn't get them, his pain would get worse. Yet, he hasn't really seen any improvement in his condition from the adjustments alone. He began getting massages from me since November 2011 with great improvement in his range of motion and pain relief. However, the range of motion improvement from just 1 session with Micheal Critz was amazing! I can't wait to apply these techniques to my clients and help them get out of pain for good.
